The final Atlantic recording of the Coltrane Quartet with McCoy Tyner, Reggie Workman and Elvin Jones on May 25, 1961 added Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard and Art Davis to the band. The interaction of the two bassists and additional horns broaden Coltrane's sound. The 18-minute, Spanish-tinged "Ole" and Tyner's exquisite ballad "Aisha" are highlights. The bonus track "To Her Ladyship" completes the session. |
